Antiaging Tip:
Benefit of Touch (Oxytocin)
Touch is an amazing gesture that gives you a
feel good feeling to stimulate endorphins. Touch is beneficial
because it stimulates a hormone, called Oxytocin, which helps to
relax and reduce blood pressure and cortisol levels. This is a
positive hormone that is also released when a woman gives birth and
also when she is breastfeeding. Oxytocin can reduce pain levels in
people when exposed to positive touching from their loved one. This
special hormone is released during massage as well as during a
loving touch from your partner or your parents when you are a baby
and even as a small child. Touch is one of the most important
connections from infancy through childhood because without it,
babies and children do not develop as quickly.
Oxytocin works by suppressing activity in the
brain region, known as the Amygdala. The Amygdala region processes
fear and communication to the rest of the brain. Oxytocin works by
suppressing anxiety in the amygdala region, thus causing less stress
and irritability. Touch can be healing and bring loving feelings
regarding someone of the opposite sex. Oxytocin also works by
stimulating increased production of estrogen and testosterone which
are both associated with sexual responses. Some elderly people who
have lost a loved one tend to buy pets because the touch associated
with petting your dog or cat, can even stimulate this in people.
Pets are great companions in more than one way.
Plastic Surgery Tip:
Short Scar Face Lift
A Short-Scar Facelift is a minimal-incision
facelift that repositions the skin and soft tissue of the face
affected by the aging process. Short-Scar Facelifts are
multi-layered where internal soft tissue structures are adjusted
separately from the skin that covers them. The scarring behind the
ear and in the hairline behind the ear is eliminated with a
short-scar face lift. This procedure is often performed with a
mid-facelift to give a more natural appearance.
During this surgery, all areas of concern that
show aging are repositioned. Skin from the fat and muscles below
the surface are separated. Fat may be trimmed to help improve the
contour. The muscles and SMAS membrane are tightened and the skin
is repositioned and any excess skin is removed. Facial structure
plays a major role in determining the outcome of the procedure.
Your Plastic Surgeon will be able to determine if a Short-Scar
Facelift is best for you.

Make
sure you chose a board certified plastic surgeon. A call to the
American Society of Plastic Surgeons or ASPS at 1-888-4-PLASTIC (ie.
1-888-475-2784) can tell you which doctors are legitimate plastic
surgeons with outstanding qualifications. You can also visit the
ASPS web site at
www.plasticsurgery.org.
The ASPS is the only one of the 24 boards approved by the American
Board of Medical Specialties that certifies physicians in plastic
surgery of the face and all areas of the body.
